KLE源自一名64岁白人女性的子宫内膜肿瘤组织,由GRRichardson于1984年建系。细胞染色体为非整倍体,数目范围在51-66之间。后来成为子宫内膜癌研究的重要工具。GR Richardson沉积的KLE细胞具有致瘤特性,将其接种于裸鼠皮下后,21天内形成肿瘤,且成瘤率为100%。这些肿瘤不形成腺体,但表现出微绒毛、连接复合物和核仁通道系统,与孕激素刺激下正常子宫内膜相似。
