1968年从一位患者的下咽肿瘤穿刺活检中建立的了FaDu细胞株。 发现已建立的细胞系在细胞质中含有张力丝束,并且桥粒区域在细胞边界处很突出。该细胞系经常用于医学研究,特别是聚焦于头颈部癌症的生物学研究。这些细胞表现出上皮形态,在培养条件下是贴壁生长的。FaDu以其强健的生长能力而闻名,常被用于实验中以理解癌细胞增殖、对治疗药物的反应以及与癌症进展和转移相关的基因表达。
